An issue that has been
plaguing the entire set of quality websites
over Internet is plagiarism or stealing
of content. Stolen content not only
outlines infringement of copyright data,
but also adversely affects the website’s
prospects in Search Engines Ranking
Pages (SERP). In fact, duplicate content
is one of the reasons that may hinder
appearance of a website’s URL in SERP.
When search engines spot two websites
or WebPages reflecting substantially
similar web content, they tend to filter
the duplicate pages while serving only
relevant and unique URLs. This in turn
translates that one of the duplicate
WebPages is left out, which may also
be the original one in the first place.
The search engines usually exclude duplicate
content altogether when too many URLs
entail copies of identical web pages.
In order to protect your web content
from being stolen, it is advisable to
pay heed to the following:
1. Scrambling the words and changing
the content without changing the meaning,
beyond recognition, is a beaten method
to steal or borrow content from another
website. To counter attack, Google is
getting smarter every day. Such techniques
cannot provide a web master a long lasting
tenure online.
2. Another prevalent method of content
spamming involves putting up WebPages,
carrying nonsense text with keywords
thrown in between. These WebPages disappear
frequently and amount to spamming that
may be ignored.
3. Yet another spamming method involves
frequently changing the content of WebPages
so as to give them a feel of RSS feeds.
Here it may be noted that Google prefers
static pages and does not prefer RSS
links for higher ranking.
4. While giving away some articles from
your site is helpful in creating inbound
links, syndicating too many of them
freely can have adverse effect.
5. Refrain from submitting information
of proprietary nature to article directories
and such public disposals.
